    Products and Services

    Activated Carbon

Through its wholly owned PRC subsidiary, Greater Khingan Range Forasen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., CNEY is a manufacturer and supplier of wood-based activated carbon that is primarily used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, water purification, environmental protection, and food and beverage production.

    Technical Services

The technical services CNEY provides include activated carbon mixing ratio adjustments, activated carbon component indicator analyses, absorptive capacity tests, and other technical support.

    Activated Carbon

If you have ever used an air or water filter, there is a good chance you encountered a miracle of nature without even noticing it: activated carbon, also known as activated charcoal.

Many people are unaware that activated carbon is a common part of everyday life. It is used for cleaning pollutants and removing toxins from the air we breathe and the water we drink.

Traditionally, activated carbon is made from coal or charcoal. However, producing activated carbon from renewable resources is far more exciting because it is sustainable!

Sustainably is one of the biggest keywords of our future.

Environmentalists have found that producing activated carbon can significantly reduce the impact from global warming.

As a manufacturer of wood-based activated carbon, CNEY primarily uses forestry residues, little fuelwood, and wood wastes as raw materials, which it sources from its suppliers.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 4.2 million people worldwide die yearly from air pollution.

The rapid growth of China's population has established a strong need for activated carbon, especially in the fields of water treatment, air purification, automobile applications, and solvent and waste gas recovery.

Growing environmental concerns and awareness have led to strict emissions guidelines. This, in turn, has encouraged several manufacturers to invest in developed technologies and advanced concepts for the use of the product in applications such as cleaning and air purification. It is increasingly used for water treatment such as drinking water, service water, groundwater, and wastewater.

According to Fortune Business Insights, the global activated carbon market is projected to grow from $4.98 billion in 2022 to $7.73 billion in 2030, at a CAGR of 5.6% in the forecast period, 2022-2030.

With 80 years of activated carbon expertise, Calgon Carbon (NASDAQ: CCC) remains the world's largest manufacturer of granular activated carbon.

CN Energy Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNEY) is an emerging competitor in China with significant market potential to grow within its existing customer base and win new customers with its high-quality wood-based activated carbon!

Expanding into North America and South America

In a strategic move, CNEY announced at the beginning of 2023 that the company has established its United States headquarters in Washington D.C. to accelerate its biochar and wood-based activated carbon businesses in North and South America.

As a concrete step toward implementing its globalization strategy, CNEY plans to collaborate with partners in the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Mexico to establish a marketing network to facilitate specific client needs.

It will also seek opportunities to localize production processes to minimize long-distance transportation costs and avoid potential impediments in cross-border supply chains. Furthermore, CNEY expects to build partnerships with leading research institutions to reinforce its research and development efforts.

Both biochar and wood-based activated carbon have a wide range of applications in industrial manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage production, and water purification. In the agriculture sector, biochar can also be blended with organic fertilizers to improve plant yields and soil productivity.

The products of CNEY are manufactured mostly by pure physical pyrolysis processes, building on the company’s proprietary technology to minimize chemical inputs.

The 6th-generation gasification reactors of CNEY have demonstrated high efficiency and robust reliability and are expected to be deployed on a larger scale in its production processes during 2023.

    MARKET AND DRIVERS

With its technology, CNEY can carry out customized production according to the specific needs of its customers and the product advantages can target many different markets.

Health risks associated with drinking impure water are rising constantly among consumers. Improvement in drinking water treatments, growth in automobile ownership rates, and increase in manufacturing and environmental standards boost the growth of activated carbon market.

    Pharmaceutical applications

Activated carbon is widely used in the field of medicine. Antibacterial drugs, sulfonamide drugs and other production processes must be decolorized and purified by activated carbon, especially the injection must be treated by activated carbon. The injection solution may contain certain toxins during the production process, which can cause certain harm to the patient during the injection process. These toxins pass through a general filtration device and are thermally stable, and must be removed by activated carbon treatment.

In addition, activated carbon can be used directly as a medicine. Activated carbon has a good adsorption effect on human exogenous toxins (such as food poisoning, pesticides, etc.) and endogenous toxins (such as triglycerides, muscle liver, uric acid, etc.), so activated carbon can be used as an antidote and colon cleanser. At the same time, activated carbon is also used as a carrier for other drugs, such as activated carbon with cancer treatment drugs directly injected to treat tumors has a significant effect.

With the improvement of people's living standards and the increasing attention to healthcare-related products, activated carbon will play an increasingly important role in the use of the pharmaceutical industry.

    Water purification applications

In recent years, the aggravation of organic pollution and the increase in drinking water pollution emergencies have reminded people to pay attention to the safety of drinking water quality.  However, except the mitigation effects on turbidity, the removal rate of other water quality indicators was low in conventional treatment. However, activated carbon can be used as a more effective means of water purification treatment, and this ability is getting more and more attention.

Due to its excellent adsorption performance, activated carbon is very effective in the water purification process. It can remove odors and improve the purity of water, as well as absorbing many impurities in water such as chlorine, phenol, arsenic, lead, cyanide, and pesticides. At the same time, activated carbon can remove color, pesticides, detergents, odors, and impurities and enable the reuse of treated industrial and agricultural water.

    Industrial applications

Due to the advantages of large specific surface area, strong adsorption capacity, fast filtration speed and high decolorization purity, activated carbon has a wide range of industrial applications, such as ultrapure water filtration in industrial manufacturing.

    Food applications

Activated carbon has a variety of functions in the food and beverage industry, such as decolorization, deodorization, colloidal removal, crystallization, stability enhancement, flavoring and recycling of effective substances, so it is widely used in various fields in the food and beverage industry such as sugar, dairy products, brewing, edible oil and food additives.

Due to the excellent characteristics of activated carbon for food and beverage, it can effectively remove various colored substances.

    In Summary…

We are increasingly living in a green economy with a world transitioning to net-zero and a sustainable economy. Green investing has become more mainstream.

China is the largest activated carbon market in the world. Activated carbon is used widely in water treatment, food and beverage, healthcare, automotive industries, and industrial processing.

At the beginning of 2023, CNEY announced that it obtained a first order to supply high-quality wood-based activated carbon directly to a producer of potable water. This could be the beginning of many more orders in the PRC, and internationally, as the company expands its presence outside of China

With refined growth strategies and upgraded technologies, and new leadership, 2024 could be another year of growth for CN Energy Group. Inc. (NASDAQ: CNEY) with potential to create increasing value for shareholders.
